Samples of work done at Uphold and Hostelworld can be found in my portfolio. 👩🏽💻
Uphold
July 2020 to August 2021
(Remote)
UX writer and content strategist
Braga, Portugal.
As its maiden UX writer, I foremostly tackled the piled-up copy debt.
I doubled up as the UX researcher and helped out with surveys, heuristics, usability testing, and other forms of user research.
I participated in new projects and help build them from the ground up, in terms of research and dictating content flow followed up with user testing, and iterations.
With pre-established products and projects, I helped in their maintenance by performing content audits and proposing ways to improve them.
I was involved in the process of preparing a style guide to bring consistency to the company's voice and content across all projects and platforms.
I proposed ways to improve Uphold's product-generated emails in terms of tone, information architecture, verbiage, and design.
I prepared guidelines to set the content tone of each project that I worked on.
I prepared guidelines and best practices regarding the language used in confirmation dialogues.
I worked towards bringing greater awareness to my role and contributions as a UX writer and in cementing my involvement in the Product Development Process as early as possible.
Hostelworld
November 2018 to May 2020
UX researcher
Porto, Portugal.
I partook in laying the foundation for a UX culture, starting with research-oriented product roadmaps and UX guidelines, right down to the implementation of UX research tools accessible to all.
I regularly participated in stakeholder meetings, bringing to the fore some crippling user pain points adversely impacting KPIs, along with solutions.
I spearheaded the need for supplementing quantitative data with qualitative information and suggesting ‘evidence-led alternatives to systems that wouldn’t accommodate user needs.
I worked towards eradicating existing design debt. I tried to shift focus to design that is geared towards simplicity rather than sophistication.
I aided in testing solutions and existing products with the mindset of 'disproving' assumptions as against validating them.
I aided in the development of a centralized dashboard showcasing key metrics to identify and track user satisfaction and behavior throughout the website funnel, readily available for anyone in the company to monitor.
I presented samples of qualitative analysis for different experiences across the website and ways on how to improve them. The methodologies I employed in doing so include the following: Heuristic analysis, User surveys, IA building, Cost-benefit analyses, to name a few.
The New Digital School
January 2018 to December 2018
Student of digital design
Porto, Portugal.
I moved to Porto from New Delhi, India, to enroll at The New Digital School (TNDS) and initiate my transition from being a corporate lawyer to a digital designer. It was during my time here that I found my calling, carefully nestled in UX.
During my time at TNDS, I had the honor of being tutored by design industry veterans. Design learning was imparted to us vide masterclasses by industry professionals.
Through master classes, projects, workshops, webinars, and client work, I received education about design thinking (Sara Ramos and Tiago Pedras), best practices in UI design for web and mobile (Francisco Baila and Javier "Simon" Cuello) , fundamental code (João Justo), non-verbal communication (Gabriella Opaz), idea generation (Christopher Murphy), responsive web design (Vitaly Friedman), UX methods and Jobs to be done (Paulo Fonseca and Steph Troeth).
Recognizing my needs as a design industry novice, my school acquainted me with Sónia Gomes and Paulo Fonseca, who took me under their wing as my mentors. Their consistent guidance and contribution as regards all things design, and even otherwise has been an immense source of inspiration and strength.
Economic Laws Practice
July 2015 to August 2017
Lawyer, specializing in Antitrust law
New Delhi, India.
Prior to moving to Portugal, I studied and practiced law for as long as eight years (2009 to 2017). Working in this profession armed me with a toolbox brimming with soft and hard skills which proved most useful in my path towards UX
Working as the Antitrust Law team’s legal associate resulted in me managing clients the likes of Google, Ericsson, Maersk (to name a few). Handling such high-stakes cases equipped me with the following;
A research-driven evidence-seeking approach,
Proficiency in market-specific research,
Thriving in a high-pressure environment,
Managing multiple deliverables simultaneously,
Learning how to prioritize, managing overlapping deadlines,
Learning to take criticism and feedback, and
Iterating accordingly.
